Why is the battery used for less battery?

The durability of the battery has always been very entangled by researchers, because no matter how large the battery is, it doesn't make sense if you can't repeat the charge multiple times. We all know that lithium batteries will reduce capacity as they are used, but no one knows why. Recently, the US Energy Agency discovered the cause of battery "aging": nano-sized crystals.

Why is the battery used for less battery? It is it!

Scholars have carefully studied the materials of modern battery anodes and cathodes. They found that these materials are directly corroded during use, but the mechanism of corrosion is not clear. The Brookhaven National Laboratory team observed high-quality nickel-oxygen cathodes by transmission electron microscopy and recorded their changes during repeated charge and discharge.

This experiment shows that when lithium ions pass through the anode and cathode, they "card" in the ion channel, they react with nickel oxide and produce tiny crystals. These crystals change the structure inside the battery and prevent other ions from reacting efficiently, reducing the available battery capacity. Surprisingly, such weakness is random and there is no law at all.

The reason why the lithium battery is not perfect is that the components of the battery are not perfect. No matter how much we pay attention to the structure of the anode and the cathode, tiny damage will produce crystals. Just like when boiling water, containers with uneven surfaces make it easier for hot water to create bubbles. It can be said that as long as the battery material has a gap, nanocrystals will be produced.

The US Energy Agency also launched a second study to explore the impact of charging speed on battery capacity. They found that modern batteries are getting smaller and smaller, which in turn will shorten battery life. The larger the battery, the faster the charging speed, and the slower the formation of nanocrystals.

So is there any way to prevent the production of nanocrystals? Let at least make this process slower. In theory, there are solutions. Scholars have discovered that with an atomic deposit, it can fill defects in the battery material, which at least slows down the production of nanocrystals. Although this method does not cure the problem, it can at least allow the battery to reduce its size without sacrificing durability. Of course, scholars are also trying to break these crystals and let the old batteries "rebirth."

This research may be more valuable than adding battery capacity. For hardware, the life of a product depends on how many times they can charge and discharge. At present, many hardware uses a non-removable power system. This research may allow us to stop doing "electric slaves."
