British scientists have recently developed a mobile phone software that can track facial features in real time, thus providing the possibility to enhance the security of multiple platforms.
According to the University of Manchester researchers who developed the technology, the successful development of this software means the elimination of mobile phone passwords because it can easily and accurately identify who is the real user.
Biometric technology is considered to have unmatched speed and accuracy. The new software allows facial recognition to replace passwords and ID numbers when registering with a mobile phone.
Dr. Phil Tresadern, who led the project, said: "To identify you as a user, first record your video so that the software will have your voice and many comparable images."
Tresadern said: "The current mobile phone facial tracking software can only provide approximate location and partial facial expressions. Our model can run in real time and can accurately track facial signs of many facial expressions such as eyes, nose, mouth and jaw."
"The front camera's mobile phone will record a video of your face and track 22 facial features. This will allow facial recognition to be more accurate, and may become an innovative way to interact with mobile phones." Tresadern added.
Researchers said that the system can connect mobile Internet applications such as e-mail, social networking, and online banking. Alternative applications for devices include entertainment applications, such as attaching virtual objects to their faces as users walk around.
Tresadern said: “In order to register via the face verification system, you first have to record a video of your own face. To log in to this system and record a new video, the system will compare this video with the original video to see if they match. If you face a slightly different direction in the two videos or have a different expression, your appearance on the screen will be very different and may be rejected by the confirmation system."
"To avoid this problem, we use tracking markers to rotate and scale your facial image so that it looks more like you are looking straight at the camera and it looks natural. By this method, most of the differences still exist. It disappears, and it looks like you are yours, and this ensures that the confirmation process is more accurate and safe. In theory, using biometrics, such as your face, will eventually replace passwords and PINs—the latter are difficult to remember, and It is easily forgotten or stolen," said Tresadern.
It is reported that this research has been funded by the EU "mobile biometric identification project."
The London Police Department hopes to use advanced facial recognition software, vehicle license plate recognition and DNA detection to reduce the crime rate. London Police Chief Bernard Hogan-Ho said that face recognition technology is developing rapidly and hopes to see the technology applied to closed circuits. TV. (Zhao Xixi)
