Novonix obtains patent for single crystal cathode manufacturing method to make higher energy density/ultra long

According to foreign media reports, Novonix, an Australian developer of lithium-ion battery technology, has developed a patented "breakthrough" cathode manufacturing method, and this method uses its proprietary dry granulation (DPMG) process.

According to Novonix, because the performance of single crystal cathode materials is better than traditional cathode materials, it has become a popular product in the lithium ion battery industry. Compared with traditional materials, the single crystal cathode design has higher energy density and long service life when used in electric vehicles and energy storage systems.

The technical research was conducted by Novonix and the research team of Professor Mark Obrovac of Dalhousie University in Canada. Before issuing a new statement, Novonix announced last month that it had successfully developed the DPMG process, and this process was also developed in collaboration with Prof. Mark Obrovac.

Phil St Baker, Managing Director of Novonix, said that the DPMG process has enabled the development of new single-crystal cathode materials and is a "breakthrough change" in improving the cost, performance and sustainability of lithium-ion batteries. Batteries can be used in electric vehicles and renewable energy applications.

Professor Obrovac and the research team published a paper stating that this single crystal cathode battery can make the battery life of electric vehicles reach 1.6 million kilometers, and can be used for at least 20 years in grid energy storage equipment.

At the same time, Professor Obrovac said that the current research only "mined" the opportunity to develop advanced battery manufacturing methods and materials, while reducing costs and producing higher performance batteries.

In recent weeks, Novonix has attracted the interest of many investors. There are rumors that the company will cooperate with Tesla and, at the same time, when it has reached a supply agreement with Samsung, it will transition to producing commercial anode products. (Yu Qiuyun)
