National standards for low-proportion methanol gasoline will be introduced

Hu Qianlin, deputy secretary-general of the China Petroleum and Chemical Industry Federation, revealed that the relevant experimental work for the low-level methanol gasoline national standard (M15) has been completed and is currently being supplemented, improved, and revised in standards. According to Zhou Zhuye, vice president of the China Petroleum and Chemical Industry Federation, at present, the slow-moving production of alcohol ether fuel products in China is serious, and the operating rate of methanol and dimethyl ether is insufficient. China's methanol production capacity has exceeded 30 million tons, but due to the methanol-to-olefins project is still in the demonstration, the M15 standard has not yet been introduced, coupled with the dumping of foreign low-cost methanol, the current methanol industry overall operating rate of less than 50%, the National II The average operating rate of methyl ether plant has dropped to about 20%, making production difficult.

Hu Qianlin believes that the lack of standards is a prominent issue that restricts the development of alcohol ether fuels. He believes that in the context of emerging energy industry development, clean coal utilization technologies such as alcohol ether fuels will become important alternative energy sources like wind energy and solar energy. He said that on the one hand, the resources of alcohol ether fuel can be guaranteed, and methanol dimethyl ether can be used to produce inferior coal. In China, 20% of the 1.2 billion tons of coal reserves are inferior coal, and clean conversion can be achieved through modern coal chemical technology. Technically, there is no bottleneck. On the other hand, it has been proved that the fuel economy, cleanliness, and vehicle adaptability of the alcohol ether fuel have no problem.

Prior to this, China started the project in 2007. In 2009, it officially promulgated the methanol fuel standard for vehicle fuel and the national standard (M85) for high-rate methanol gasoline. Hu Qianlin said that only these three standards are not enough. It is a systematic project to promote the use of alcohol ether fuels. In addition to the three product standards, the standards for supporting filling systems and transmission and distribution systems should also be introduced in a timely manner.
