Introduction to the mixer

Full name closed refining machine. It is one of the main equipment for plastic compounding. According to the working principle, it can be divided into two types: intermittent and continuous. The main structural parameters of the mixer are the rotor speed, diameter, length and the total capacity of the mixer. It consists of a mixing chamber, a rotor, an upper plug (pressing device), a lower plug (unloading device), a heating and cooling device, and a transmission system.

The working principle is that the mixture enters the mixing chamber from the feeding hopper, and is subjected to constant shearing and pinching in the gap between the two relatively rotating rotors, the gap between the rotor and the inner wall of the mixing chamber, and the gap between the rotor and the upper and lower plugs. Refining and friction, so that the plastic heats up and plasticizes, and mixes evenly. Intermittent mixers have tended to be standardized and serialized. Commercially available internal mixers have specifications of 4, 25, 50, 75, 150, 250, and 380l. Since the batch mixer was not suitable for continuous production, a continuous mixer was developed in the 1960s. More commonly used are rotor type continuous mixers and twin screw mixers.

There are many types of twin-screw mixers. Generally, it has the ability to force the material to convey, the mixing function is strong, the residence time of the material in the twin screw is short, and the self-cleaning performance of the twin screw is good, the material accumulation can be eliminated in time, and the material degradation phenomenon is reduced, so the application is increasingly popular. Figure 2 shows a twin-screw mixing-grain machine.
