EdgeCAM offers a variety of means, and here we focus on the application of Roughing processing methods. This machining method can be used not only for ordinary 2D cavity machining, but also for roughing of 3D surfaces and solid models. Moreover, this processing method also has the functions of rough machining residual material processing, cutting the inclined surface, optimizing the tool path by using the shaped blank, and generating a cycloid machining path suitable for high speed machining. Therefore, it is extremely important to fully grasp the application of this processing method.
Roughing's processing method is very powerful; it combines the previous versions of Areaclear, Lace, Z Level Roughing, and Z Level Rest Roughing. Processing methods such as 2D and 3D models are combined; although there are many parameter settings here, a processing method with such a powerful function can be tolerated. First introduce all the meanings of the parameters, and then through the programming operations for different types of parts, to further understand and master the skills of Roughing.
Command: Main Menu→Mill Cycles→RoughingSteps:
Select machining toolClick the icon or select the "Roughing" command in the menu
Add the relevant parameters in the parameter dialog and press "ok" to confirmSelect processing object
Generate a tool path.Finishing the roughing of the model shown in Figure 1.
Model file: camExampleasic millingoughing external boss.ppf in the EdgeCAM installation directory (delete the existing tool path and regenerate the tool path as follows).
Note: Enter the machining mode (the process of adjusting the machining origin is temporarily omitted here).
Select the machining tool: 20mm diameter end mill, you can directly select the milling cutter named 20mm Slot Drill-2 flute-IC250 in the tool magazine.
Select the processing method: Main Menu→Mill cycles→Roughing or select from the toolbar, as shown in Figure 2.
